About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Doraville at 5150 Buford Hwy NE, Mamak offers an authentic taste of Malaysia that beckons food enthusiasts seeking the bold and comforting flavors of Southeast Asian cuisine. This Malaysian restaurant is a true gem, delivering an exceptional culinary experience that captures the rich tapestry of Malaysia’s diverse food heritage.

At Mamak, each dish is a celebration of carefully blended spices and fresh ingredients, executed with passion and precision. The menu is a delightful journey through Malaysian favorites, from the comforting Hainanese Chicken (half portion ideal for sharing) to the richly spiced Beef Rendang, simmered to tender perfection in aromatic coconut milk and a fragrant mix of herbs and spices. Fans of noodle dishes will find the Beef Chow Ho Fun and Indian Mee Goreng Chicken deeply satisfying, each bite infused with a harmonious balance of textures and bold, savory flavors.

One cannot visit Mamak without trying their signature Nasi Lemak — a fragrant coconut milk-infused rice dish, crowned with crispy anchovies, perfectly boiled eggs, sambal chili, and an assortment of savory sides. The Roti Canai, a Malaysian flatbread known locally as 马来面包, proves to be an irresistible starter or accompaniment, especially when dipped into one of the restaurant’s luxurious curries like the Kari Fish Fillet or Curry Beef Brisket. The curry sauces here boast an unmistakable creaminess punctuated by layers of spice, and as one reviewer charmingly noted, the addition of soft chunks of potato adds a delightful textural contrast, creating a soul-warming meal.

Mamak’s culinary prowess extends to its chef’s specials such as the Black Pepper Beef, Basil Chicken, and the uniquely satisfying Mamak Chicken — a perfect melding of spicy, sweet, and tangy flavors that keep regulars coming back for more. The menu also features creative seafood options like the Assam Pomfret, served in a tangy chili sauce that awakens the palate, and the indulgent Walnut Shrimp, an elevated dish crisped to perfection and topped with a rich mayo-walnut drizzle.

The dining atmosphere at Mamak is relaxed and unpretentious, reflecting the casual strip mall setting but far exceeding expectations through its culinary offerings. While the decor may be modest, it’s clear that the focus here is squarely on the food. The friendly service complements the experience, with staff often ready to recommend dishes, ensuring each visit feels personalized. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch or settling in for a hearty dinner, Mamak’s warm hospitality and mouthwatering dishes make every meal memorable.

Regular patrons praise the consistency and authenticity of the food, highlighting the generous portions and the delightful balance of flavors. The free and ample parking adds to the convenience, making it easy for guests to enjoy an unhurried meal. From the satisfying crunch of the Satay Skewers to the comforting embrace of a bowl of Curry Laksa, every dish bursts with bold, thoughtful flavors that transport you straight to the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur.

In essence, Mamak is a must-visit for anyone in Georgia yearning for an authentic Malaysian dining experience that doesn’t shy away from bold, complex flavors. I went here with my mother around noon this Tuesday. We ordered two Roti Canai (one each) and the Kari Fish Fillet. The curry sauce was absolutely delicious, creamy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the roti. I also liked that the sauce had more than just liquid. It included a piece of potato and chicken. I always love eating the potato once I'm done with my roti. The Kari Fish was good as well, though the vegetables in it were a bit overripe. I appreciate that each table had its own water jug, so we didn’t have to ask the server for refills as often. I used to eat at Mamak frequently before quarantine, but since moving farther away, I don’t visit as often. I’m glad to say it’s still just as good as I remembered. I also recommend trying the Rendang Beef, the meat is very tender, and the rich sauce tastes amazing with rice.

Small and good Malaysian restaurant. We started with chicken skewers, then ordered okra, salt & pepper squid, walnut shrimp, curry laksa. The food came with a bowl of white rice. Everything we ordered was delicious!! They have ice teas and soft drinks but don’t serve alcohol beverages in October 2025. Free and big parking lot available. It’s located in the same shopping center as the sweet hut bakery.

Date of visit: 08/09/2025 A colleague recommended a Malaysian restaurant to me, and after living in Georgia for over two years, this was actually my very first time trying Malaysian food! I ordered Char Kway Teow and Chicken Satay. The satay came with a slightly spicy sauce that was really tasty. The Char Kway Teow had an intense wok hei (wok aroma) — a little on the charred side, but not too salty or oily, which I appreciated! It was packed on the weekend, so I’d definitely recommend making a reservation. Btw, please said congrats to me become Level 9 in Google map!! Yahhh Wooo

This place was suggested to me by a friend who knows what’s up in the food world, so I was so excited to try it out! We both asked the waiter for their recommendations, and as soon as the food came out, I was thanking my past self for saving enough room for dinner. These bowls were packed with food, and the pile of tofu atop my dish was sky-high! The sauce in the Chef’s Special Spicy Tofu (order this without pork if you are vegetarian) is nicely sweet yet heavily salted as well, and it’s - of course - spicy from the red pepper flakes. Would totally recommend, but I would keep in mind that service might rush you a bit / be quite impatient, as I noticed both while we were ordering and later paying. Also, vegetarian options are highly limited, but they are willing to adjust protein options if you ask. Nonetheless, the great dishes, very fast output of food, and stellar location in the Asian Plaza on Buford Hwy make the experience worthwhile!

It's in a strip mall. Not much to the decor. But let's be real, you're coming for the food. The beef was tender and flavorful. Vegetables were crisp tender. Sauce had just the right amount of spice. Okra was mid for me, still to gummy. Okra.. you either love it or hate it. The chicken dish.. this was great, the sauce was complex, sweet with nice heat at the back. If I was to eat here again.. I would order the chicken again.
